About me

Nikos Konomi

System Administrator · Systems & Infrastructure Engineer

I keep servers, identities and endpoints running for a living, and I run this homelab for the same reason I chose the job: I like systems that are documented, monitored and boring in the best way.

What I do

I build and look after IT infrastructure: Windows and Linux servers, virtualization and containers, networks, and hybrid Microsoft cloud with Azure, Microsoft 365, Entra ID and Intune. The work runs from the server room to the user's desk, and from the network to the databases behind the business applications.

Most of it comes down to making systems dependable: automating the repetitive work, monitoring what matters and documenting everything so nothing depends on one person's memory. theProjectHomeLab is the at-home version of that: real services on my own hardware, written up step by step so anyone can build them too.

How I work

Write it down

If it is not documented, it only works while I remember it. Every SOP at work and every guide on this site comes from that habit.

Automate the second time

Doing a task once is learning it. Doing it twice is the cue for a script or a policy.

Know before the users do

Monitoring and alerting come first, so a full disk is a notification, not an outage.

Try it at home first

The homelab is where new tools get tested on my own time, before they get anywhere near production.
